9 of the best midfielders of the world
We all know of the best midfielders in the world. If we had to ask any football fan who his favorite midfielder is, it would have to be from the following list:
But these are the ones we already know of. They have mastered well the role of the playmaker, the box-to-box midfielder, the wingers, the attacking and defensive midfielders, the false 9 and the false 10.
There’s another budding breed of hardcore footballers who have mastered these skills as well and they may not be spoken of as much it should be. So here we are presenting just that:
1. Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) :
Chelsea sold him to Wolfsburg after the 22-year-old failed to perform at Stamford Bridge but he’s not only proved himself under Pelligrini at City but also shining under Pep Guardiola who is known for bringing out the best in his players. He makes the right passes, shoots long range balls, knows where his opponents are and where his teammates are. Quite the playmaker!
2. Luka Modric (Real Madrid):
This is one hidden gem for the Spanish heavyweights. When he came from Tottenham in the EPL to La Liga he was marred with injuries and criticism over whether his playing style will match up to La Liga or not. But now he is one of the most vital playmakers in the world. He may not seem as strong as a Fabregas, an Alonso or a Pogba but his deceptive power is his biggest strength. That combined with his ability to make vital passes into his shooting half the second he wins the ball is WORTH NOTICING.
3. Yaya Toure (Manchester City):
This man is big which automatically gives him an advantage. At Barcelona, he wasn’t allowed much to make it all the way to the top denying him goal scoring opportunities. But at Manchester City, we saw a different Toure altogether. Alongside the fact that he spends some time at the gym this guy is one power packed midfielder!
4. Sergio Busquets (Barcelona):
Usually when you’re playing on a team with names like Gerard Pique, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar Jr. Iniesta, Xavi, your name tends to get sidetracked at some point in time. This essential playmaker has been an integral part of the Catalan midfield supporting the likes of Iniesta and Xavi!
5. Deli Alli (Tottenham Hotspur):
He’s very young but has already made it to the big leagues and the national football team as well. At 20, this Spurs attacking midfielder comes in from the left making some vital crosses only to run back into head or power shoot the ball in.
6. Christian Eriksen (Tottenham Hotspur):
Here’s another midfielder from the London team Tottenham who gets shadowed by Harry Kane and his shooting abilities. Eriksen has been vital in the Spurs squad for the 2017-18 premier league season and his playmaking abilities have been honed by Pochettino making him far better a midfielder than when he came in.
7. Nemenja Matic (Manchester United):
Most Chelsea fans hate his departure to Manchester United and now with Pogba with his attacking midfield capabilities, Matic is the perfect defending midfielder to compliment him on the trot. Matic under Mourinho again, make a killer pair and since Matic claimed that Manchester United is the best club he has ever played for he is bound to up his game so much more.
8. Ander Herrera (Manchester United):
Here’s another midfielder who should get more than he deserves and currently gets in praises. He is the ultimate game maker and plays box-to-box by the book! His linking with Rooney and Fellaini was vital in previous seasons and his ability to make position and crosses are unmatched.
9. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool):
The only reason you may not have heard of him before Liverpool was because he wasn’t a part of the most spoken about football league in the world as of yet – the EPL. His movie to Anfield changed everything and his goals in the opening matches with single runs across the pitch showed his true caliber and what we must expect of him in games to come.
